Deliver high quality and consistent daily care and support services to clients in accordance with the clients
Individualised Support Plan, Departmental policies and procedures.
Job Details:
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Engage clients in daily tasks to increase their skills, wellbeing and independence as outlined in the clients Individual Support Plans.
2. Deliver quality, consistent 24/7 care and support services to clients to implement and follow the client’s Individualised Care Plan
including upkeep of personal hygiene and personal care, meal preparation, domestic duties and activities, both recreational and
educational.
3. Assess and manage dynamic risk of clients presenting with behaviours of concern in the context of a secure environment.
4. Comply with service and client record keeping requirements in a timely manner.
5. Accompany clients to attend specialist appointments, appear in court and community visits as required.
6. Facilitate contact between clients and any visitors who may come to the facility to visit them.
7. Follow reasonable directions and engage in appropriate responses when a critical or behaviour related incident occurs.
8. Attend and participate positively in meetings, orientations and training as required.
9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order
to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection Criteria
Essential:
1. Previous experience working with Indigenous people who have high support needs, including people with intellectual disabilities or
psychiatric disabilities and/or behaviour of concern.
2. Demonstrated positive and contemporary values regarding people with disabilities and their families, carers or guardians, and sensitivity
to the issues that impact on them.
3. Previous experience in the delivering disability support services in a cross-cultural environment, particularly people from Aboriginal
backgrounds and an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
4. Ability to deliver disability services within legislative and policy frameworks including the development and reliable implementation of
individual support plans and protocols, risk management strategies and a strong commitment to outcomes.
5. Sound written and oral communication skills for effective liaison and documentation with clients and staff.
6. Current prison clearance or the ability to obtain upon commencement if successful.
7. Willingness and flexibility to work 12 hour shifts, with active nights, on a 24/7 roster.
8. Hold a current Northern Territory (NT) manual driver’s licence or the ability to obtain.
Desirable:
1. Certificate IV in Disability Services or Certificate IV in Mental Health or the ability to undertake a Certificate IV in a prescribed timeframe.
2. Previous experience working a 24 hour, 7 day per week roster.
