Job Details: About the opportunity

The Aboriginal Health Worker Transition to Practice works as key member of the multi-disciplinary team to provide flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive primary health care services, including direct clinical care, to Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities to achieve better health access and outcomes while they work towards meeting requirements for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner.

Gilgandra is the halfway point between Melbourne (880 kilometres away) and Brisbane (790 kilometres away), with Sydney approximately 445 kilometres to the east. The town is 270 kilometres northwest of Orange and 65 kilometres northeast of the major regional city of Dubbo.

The Gilgandra Multipurpose Service (MPS) is a 31-bed facility and includes acute, sub-acute and high care residential aged care beds. The facility has a 24-hour emergency department, outpatient services including renal dialysis and a range of integrated primary and community health care services.

To apply for this position, please address the following Selection Criteria
Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (pursuant to Section 14 (d) of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977.
Hold or be willing to work towards a minimum Certificate IV Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) and be willing to work towards Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) standards to meet Registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner.
Understanding of the following factors and how they influence Aboriginal people, their cultural understanding of health issues and their health outcomes: Australian history, socio economic influences, the complexities of chronic disease and preventable lifestyle illness.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team.
Demonstrated capacity to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate health promotion and education initiatives and the ability to use computer programs required to plan, deliver or document this care (including capacity to learn relevant programs, including those for patient records and data reporting).
Ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and consult with others, document care well and interact sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people.
Current licence to drive in NSW with the ability and willingness to travel and drive for work purposes.
